When considering moving abroad, it's important to choose the right destination. Not only should prospective expatriates look for a city in which they can enjoy themselves, but it's also essential to research cost of living, education, work opportunities and a number of other factors. Weighing all of these elements, here are some key destinations for expats.

Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm is a charming city that has seen an insurmountable increase in economic growth over the past decade. With affordable suburban living and excellent public transportation, Sweden's political and economic core is ideal for expats looking to live comfortably.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Home to roughly 25 percent of Denmark's population, Copenhagen has become increasingly popular amongst expats. It offers high wages and one of the lowest low-income inequality measures in the world, and being a series of islands, Denmark boasts a wealth of beautiful shorelines and water activities for expats' enjoyment.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney has no shortage of lifestyle benefits, from great public transportation and beautiful site seeing to top-notch healthcare services. Sydney's high education standards also make it one of the top destinations for expats with children.

Brussels, Belgium

As de facto capital of the European Union, Brussels attracts expatriates from all over the world. Not only does it boast a high quality of life, but it's also home to a wealth of multinational companies and hosts over a thousand business conferences each year, making it ideal for expats looking to work abroad.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is not only a popular vacation destination, but also the perfect city for expats looking to enjoy the outdoors. Riding a bicycle to work is overwhelmingly common, as the Netherlands take environmentalism very seriously, and expats with special expertise can enjoy a 30-percent tax-free allowance if they meet certain criteria.

Vancouver, Canada

Canada is understandably envied for its stellar national healthcare system and inviting culture, and Vancouver is consistently ranked its most livable city. Although its cost of living is on the rise, Vancouver offers one of the highest qualities of life.

Munich, Germany

Germany has long been a common destination for those moving abroad. With its high standards for education and relatively cheap living costs, starting a new life in Germany is much easier than it sounds. With one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, Munich is home to some of Germany's highest earners and an enormous expat population.

Auckland, New Zealand

New Zealand is teeming with foreigners, and as the country's economic capital, Auckland is the obvious destination for expats. Although it is New Zealand's most expensive city, it's relatively cheap on a global scale. Expats in Auckland can take home high salaries while enjoying the charm and leisure of its cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich consistently ranks as one of the best cities to live in the world. Thanks to its low crime rate and excellent infrastructure, Switzerland's financial capital attracts people from all over the globe. And as a plus, business is often conducted in English, so learning a new language isn't necessary.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna has become one of the most popular destinations for expats. With high-quality schools specializing in foreign curricula, as well as a plethora of work opportunities with international organizations, Austria is considered by many to be the ideal city for people living abroad.
